September 13, 2005 – On August 16, 2005 a warm reception was held in honour of Peter and Kit McCaffrey, founders of the Midweek Cycling Club.
Over eight years ago, Peter started running midweek races in the Mississauga area and four years ago, the club was officially registered as the Midweek Cycling Club.
Under Peter and Kit’s leadership and tireless dedication, the club has provided many riders with the opportunity to develop and succeed at all levels from junior to international cycling. The club has also served as a vehicle for new and past racers to train to re-enter the competitive arena with great success. Many riders who started their careers with the Midweek club have succeeded at the international level.
Currently, over 300 riders from clubs across the metro Toronto area and even into the Golden Horseshoe attend Midweek Racing to learn, develop and accelerate their skills in bike racing. New can ride alongside former pros and Olympians at Midweek.
Midweek Cycling also contributed over the years to developing bike racing in hosting dozens of provincially ranked races among others, the Terra Cotta Stage Race, CHIN Picnic, and countless ‘cross events.
Many stories and sentiments were shared and it was a great opportunity for the membership of the Midweek Cycling Club and the bike racing community to honour and celebrate Peter and Kit’s achievements.
Peter and Kit have moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia and it is great to see that the club has just celebrated it’s finest year yet.
