May 28, 2009 (Barrie, ON) — The upcoming Fly Gurlz Learn to MTB Camp is our final camp and open to all ages and ability levels. The camp takes place on Saturday, June 13, at Hardwood Ski and Bike. Time: 8:30 am registration – camp runs 9:00am – 4:30pm.
We have moved the camps over to Hardwood Ski and Bike to offer better value to our camp attendants. HSB offers a better variety of trail system and this terrain will allow us to take the camps to a whole new level of instruction!
Our one-day learn to mountain bike camps are geared towards all ages and ability levels. Teaching groups break off into skill levels – ranging from the beginner rider all the way to expert level. The instructor to rider ratio is 1:6 which makes for small teaching groups and high learning curves. Our promise to you is a safe and comfortable approach to skill set building. The morning is spent breaking down biking skills into manageable pieces which helps to overcome personal fear factors. In the afternoon we put the skills into practice on group rides.
Each teaching group covers the following topics: bike fit, mounting, dismounting, pedal stroke, gearing, braking, front wheel lift, cornering, climbing, descending, small obstacles. Intermediate and advanced groups will also cover: larger obstacles, rocky sections, steep sections, switchbacks, back wheel lift & vertical wheel lift.
During the afternoon ride time is spent on difficult sections of the trail and everyone is encouraged to push their own personal limits. The morning session empowers riders to get in touch with the mind to body to bike connection that is critical when evaluating your own personal risk strategy out on the trails.
