Fernie Fat Tire Adventures Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Special Trip

April 17, 2006 – Fernie Fat-Tire Adventures, one of Canada’s leading mountain bike tour companies, is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a spectacular tour of interior British Columbia’s best mountain biking.

The ’10th Anniversary Ultimate BC Tour’ is a 12-day cross-country singletrack epic that starts in Fernie, BC and features riding in some of the province’s best mountain biking locales, including Nelson, Rossland, Revelstoke and Golden.

‘For our 10-year anniversary, we wanted to do something extra special, both for our staff and our customers,’ says company vice-president Kim Shopland. ‘What we consistently heard from our clients is that they loved our week-long trips but wanted something even longer.’

The trip will feature 5 nights of accommodation in lodges and hotels, along with 8 nights of camping in specially-chosen campgrounds. All meals are included, along with extra activities such as hotspring soaks, caving, and river tubing. Paragliding is an optional activity, along with whitewater rafting and hiking.

The company has a well-established eco-tourism policy. ‘We pride ourselves on our sustainable tourism inititatives,’ says company founder and president Mike Brcic. ‘Before it was fashionable to do so, we hired only local guides and used local suppliers to keep dollars in local communities. We now have 8 local guides on staff and have our own non-profit organization, Bicycles Without Borders, which distributes used bikes to needy families in Central and South America.’

In addition to the 10th Anniversary Tour, the company offers several weeklong trips, either lodge or camping based, for both cross-country and downhill enthusiasts. They also offer skills camps for women and day and weekend adventures.
