Employment Opportunity – Doping Control Officer at CCES in Calgary

December 13, 2011 (Calgary, AB) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) is an independent, national, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to foster ethical sport for all Canadians.  The CCES is seeking two individuals to fill the employment opportunity of Doping Control Officer (DCO) – Level 1 on a casual employment basis.  We are currently seeking individuals residing in or near the city of Calgary, Alberta.

DCOs play a key role at the CCES in implementing the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP).  As a DCO, you will be responsible for conducting sample collection sessions with athletes.  Sample collection sessions include the collection of urine and/or blood at both in-competition (events) and out-of-competition (training and home visits) testing sessions.

All DCOs will be trained by the CCES in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) International Standard for Testing and receive assignments for testing athletes on a casual employment basis throughout the year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Doping Control Officer – LEVEL 1

The ideal candidate would be at least 25 years of age, demonstrate the ability to adapt to change, be knowledgeable of the rules of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program, and work with self-initiative.  The candidate will possess strong communication skills and be able to work with and provide direction in a cooperative environment so that the goals of the CCES are achieved.  Candidates are often retired or have full-time employment in the field of physiotherapy, athletic therapy, physical education, law enforcement, healthcare and medical services and education.

This position with the CCES requires an individual with the following minimum abilities:

Ability to:
– follow directions and instructions;
– maintain confidential information;
– work in stressful situations and solve problems;
– act in a respectful and professional manner;
– effectively evaluate situations and exercise good judgment calls;
– follow a defined set of protocols and procedures;
– work in a high pressure, constantly changing environment;
– work with athletes of all levels, including Olympic level & professional athletes;
– maintain confidential information.

POSITION DETAILS

Purpose:
– To collect and assist with urine and blood sample collection sessions for in-competition and out-of-competition testing missions.
– To lead Level 1 doping control missions in accordance with the CADP as required.
– To provide leadership, training and evaluation to chaperones as required.

Mandatory Requirements:
– Have a computer with internet access.
– Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
– Be willing and able to travel.
– Attend all training / certification workshops.  Complete WHIMIS training as requested by the CCES.
– Have a cell phone.
– Adhere to the rules of the CADP.
– Successfully go through the steps of the CCES screening policy.
– Willingness to witness passing of a urine sample of athletes of the same sex as the DCO.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:
– Education: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant position.
– Language Skills: Strong English and/or French verbal and written communication skills.
– Leadership Skills: Professional conduct, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, ability to work with little or no notice, ability to give/receive feedback.
– Project Skills: Organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, ability to follow procedures, time management skills, ability to work in a team environment.
– Computer Skills: Reasonable ability use email, the Internet, MS Word, and Excel to input data.

Preferred attributes:
– Ability to communicate in both official languages.
– Sport knowledge/experience.
– Previous anti-doping experience.
– Flexible schedule.

Compensation: Hourly rate plus expenses
