Ellen Watters Injured While Riding in New Brunswick – Fundraiser Launched

by pedalmag.com

December 26, 2016 (Sussex, New Brunswick) – Ellen Watters, 28, who recently signed with Colavita/Bianchi, was severely injured on Dec. 23 during a training ride near her home in Sussex, New Brunswick while visiting her family over the holidays. Watters was apparently hit from behind by a vehicle and sustained a massive head trauma and was rushed to Saint John Regional Hospital. A fundraiser has been set up on Go Fund Me to assist the family during this difficult time and any support is appreciated. Note that Go Fund Me does take a portion of monies raised, so if you have the opportunity to contribute in person that is ideal. Help spread the word! Contribute here.

The family has posted the following note on FB.

I want to thank everyone for the stupendous outpouring of support which have been sent to Ellen, and to our family. The love, strength and joy which Ellen has always shared around her have come rushing right back to her. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the support which her family has received from dear friends, and from all of the cycling community. At this time, Ellen is still stable and receiving respiratory support. However, given her injuries and the results of scans and observation over the past few days, we do not anticipate a recovery. This news is truly heartbreaking for me to have to share. Ellen’s incredible strength and tenacity make this all the more difficult to take in. Please keep Ellen’s vibrancy shining through your memories of her, the joy you share with the world, and every great big laugh you just can’t keep to yourself. Until we have more news to share, we’d appreciate some space while we try to cope with this news.

Pedal joins the cycling community in sending our thoughts and prayers to Ellen’s family and friends during this difficult time.
