Ed Schum Honored for Sport Development

March 21, 2006 – Long-time Abitibi BC Team Coach identified as recipient of Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Award

Cycling BC is happy to announce that Ed Schum, long-time Abitibi BC Team Coach, has been identified as the recipient of Sport BC’s 2006 Community Sport Hero Award for his outstanding contribution to sport development throughout BC.

Ed has been a member of Cycling BC for over 20 years. Over this time, Ed has proven to be an invaluable member of Cycling BC’s sport development system, leading our Provincial Junior Team to Regional, Provincial, National and International competitions. For the fourth consecutive year, Ed has been selected to lead the BC Team to the Tour de L’Abitibi, a major international-level stage race that routinely attracts teams from all corners of the globe.

Outside of his very important role as the BC Team Abitibi Coach, Mr. Schum, past President of the Comox Valley Cycling Club, continues his involvement in youth development by acting as a key consultant to the Junior Challenge Race Series and the High Performance Sub-Committee, and has organized local community events aimed at increasing youth involvement, with the Comox Valley Junior Stage Race.
