Eco Challenge in Canada

For the first time, Canadians will have an opportunity to earn a spot in
the Eco Challenge World Championship through a qualifier in their homeland.
The inaugural Eco Challenge Canadian championship will be staged from Aug.
14-18 in Golden, B.C. This year’s world finals, to be held in late
September or early October, will have berths for the top two Canadian
finishing teams. (The event is restricted to 50 teams from around the
world.)

The Eco Challenge world event has been held annually since 1995. Last
year’s site was in New Zealand. A location for this year’s event is
expected to be announced in March.

At the Canadian championships, the four-person co-ed teams will race across
320 kilometres of some of the country’s most rugged terrain. Disciplines
will include mountain biking, paddling, trekking, and mountaineering.
Teams can register for the Canadian event online at
www.adventureracingcanada.com. The entry deadline is April 1, 2002.
