David Veilleux Drops Out of Pan Am Games

by John Symon

October 14, 2011 (Guadalajara, Mexico) – Canada’s squad at the 2011 Pan American Games will be missing an important team member – David Veilleux. His personal trainer since 2006, Pierre Hutsebaut, told Pedal that the 23-year-old road cyclist will not participate in the Pan Am Games due to a sudden onset of fatigue after a very long season and heavy schedule since the beginning of August.

“We prepared for the two WorldTour races in Quebec City and in Montreal, and because of good results there (22nd in both races), David was selected for the World Championships in Copenhagen where he also performed very well (19th). His team (Europcar) then entered him in a series of events in Belgium, then Paris-Tours and Piemonte and Lombardy. But after Paris-Tours, he felt he had nothing left at all and was suffering from exhaustion. There is no more energy left in the tank.”

Veilleux was slated to compete in the men’s 160km road race on Oct. 22nd. It is unclear if a substitute will step in for Veilleux. The 16th Pan Am Games take place from October 14–30, 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico. For Canada’s cycling team at the Games click HERE.
