Cyclocross World Champ Vervecken to Compete at Whitmores Super Cross Cup

September 19, 2007 (Southampton, NY) – World Professional Cyclocross Champion Erwin Vervecken is coming to the two-day Whitmore’s Landscaping Super Cross Cup in New York on October 6-7. Not content with “only” having the richest women’s cyclocross in the world, promoter Myles Romanow has also significantly raised the profile of the men’s portion of the two-day international race with the signing of the Belgian Superstar.

It will be the first time a reigning World Cyclocross Champion has ever competed on North American soil.

Vervecken, a three-time Professional World Champion racing for the Fidea Cycling Team, joins last year’s Women’s World Championship Silver Medalist Katie Compton and a who’s who of North American stars for what is now undoubtedly the finest scheduled line-up for any cyclocross in North America this season. Also scheduled to compete are multi-time US cyclocross and mountain bike champion Ryan Trebon, America’s first international cyclocross star Tim Johnson along with his many-time Canadian cycling champion Lyne “the Canadian Legend” Bessette, and a host of other champions.

The Whitmore’s Landscaping Super Cross Cup is the only UCI-sanctioned cyclocross race in the state of New York. Held in the Long Island town of Southampton, the area is more generally known as “The Hamptons” and is famous for its “˜Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”, so Erwin Vervecken should feel right at home when he visits. On the other hand, budget-minded racers and spectators have numerous affordable hotel options, most notably in nearby Riverhead which, perhaps prophetically, sits alongside Flanders Bay. The race organizers are currently working on a list of affordable accommodations for the hordes of domestic riders expected to enter the amateur classes as a result of Vervecken’s appearance.

Additional information on this development will be sent shortly. For detailed information on the Whitmore’s Landscaping Super Cross Cup on October 6 and 7 in Southampton New York, see BikeReg.com or call (631) 255-9568.
