Cyclo-Cross Clinic in Etobicoke

September 14, 2007 – The Midweek Cycling Club is announcing that they will be holding a Cyclo-Cross Clinic from 6 -10 pm on Tuesday, September 18, rain or shine at Centennial Park, Etobicoke – part of Midweek’s Cyclo-Cross at Centennial program.

Midweek encourages all to participate in Scott Doel’s learn-to-cross session this weekend at Hardwood Hills and to also partake of our September 18th extended session. Both sessions compliment each other.

Note this session starts at 6 pm sharp:
“¢ 5:30 registration/sign-in at ski chalet and warm-up
“¢ 6 to 8 pm is on the bike training located on the ski hill
“¢ 8 to 10 pm is bike set-up and maintenance, video review, located within the chalet

Course Content
On the Bike skills taught (6 – 8 pm+/-)
– stretching
– positioning
– transitions & hurdles
– dismount
– carrying
– running
– remounting
– accelerating
– how to not go over the handlebars
– gearing: what – when
– braking
– cornering through technical sections
– passing (handling traffic jams)
– straight riding off camber
– cornering on off camber
– descending steep, descending shallow
– hills: when to ride, when to run
– riding over obstacles
– riding sand and mud
– tire pressure: matching to terrain
– training exercises to do at home

In the Chalet (8 – 10 pm +/-)
– the cross bike set-up
– setting up a mountain bike for cross
– prepping the bike
– brakes
– gearing
– at race bike clean
– race rules specific to cyclo-cross
– clothing
– feeding the body for cross
– recovery
– video review: what you are doing right, what needs more work
