Cyclist Stabbed and Dies in Montreal

August 28, 2006 – A 48-year-old cyclist, Alain Lachapelle, was mortally wounded in downtown Montreal on Thursday at about 6:30 p.m. by an enraged street person, identified as Joseph Roy Martin. Martin had threatened several people and was having confrontations with two of them when Lachapelle passed by on his bicycle and told Martin to “calm yourself.”

Lachapelle stopped a few moments later at a red light where Martin caught up with him and stabbed Lachapelle violently in the upper body. He died at a hospital shortly afterward. Martin is still at large.
