June 28, 2012 – This is a tough one. What an honour for both Clara Hughes (Specialized-lululemon) and Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro) to be the two final female candidates for Canada’s Flag Bearer at London 2012 Olympic Games – one of the highest honours an athlete can receive. Cycling wins not matter how the final vote turns out… is a double-flag-bearer an option ?
Yesterday’s men’s final between Simon Whitfield and Ian Millar garnered a record 29,353 votes (!), and Whitfield won by the incredibly slim margin of 11 votes. In today’s women’s final, No. 8 seed Catharine Pendrel looks to continue her Cinderella run against No. 2 seed Clara Hughes. If Hughes wins it’ll be her second time as a flag bearer for Canada as she received the honour at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
Either way cycling’s a winner.
