June 12, 2012 (Ottawa, ON) – Cycling Canada Cyclisme is proud to unveil the list of athletes who have qualified for the 2012 Olympic Selection Pool for BMX cycling, a short-list group of riders from which the 2012 Olympic Cycling Team nominations will be drawn upon.

Jacques Landry, High Performance Director for Cycling Canada Cyclisme, is happy with the selections to the pool. “With the successes of Tory Nyhaug on the international BMX scene, Canada was able to secure a spot for Men BMX. Despite recently suffering from a spleen injury we are confident that he will make a return to competition in time, thus why he is in the pool. James has been a consistent rider and gave a lot to the sport, while Connor is a rising star with lots of potential in the sport.”

Added Landry: “We will no doubt compete with the objective of a berth in the finals in London. The athletes selected in the pool all have the abilities to compete against the world’s top riders.”

Through the UCI Qualification process, Canada qualified one spot for the men’s Olympic BMX race. Canada did not qualify any sports for the women’s race.

Athletes in the Olympic selection pool have all qualified as a result of their performances since the UCI Qualification Window has been opened. As per the approved Selection guidelines, the High Performance advisory committee of Cycling Canada Cyclisme, comprised of many specialists, will gather and proceed with the selection of athlete who will be nominated to the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team to represent Canada at the upcoming Olympic Games in London, UK.
