February 23, 2011 (Santa Rosa, USA) – The Cycling BC provincial team’s U23 and Elite riders continued with some real fun in the sun in Santa Rosa, California, logging solid base miles and topping up Vitamin D stores. Read young up-and-comer Jasmin Glaesser’s Day 7 rider report.
It has been a long time coming but California riding finally lived up to its promised glory today with 155kms of sunbathed wine country roads, and terrain varying from gentle rollers to a 1km steep pitch that had us all riding the ol’ paperboy line. Despite the splendid conditions it was a rough start for some as Owen Harrison was the unfortunate victim of a Ben & Jerry’s hangover, and Mike Rothengatter free-dived into a ditch and emerged a little mud sodden.
Many hours of some good hard tempo and a show down extraordinaire on an out-and-back rolling climb, and all thoughts of ice cream splurges and mud stains were forgotten to be replaced with a genuine appreciation for riding that would have been hard to come by in the clammy cold that is the Vancouver winter. A big shout out as always to everyone who has had a hand in making this venture happen!
