Cyclemeisters Fietscross

September 28, 2005 – When the leaves are turning, temperatures are hovering around zero, and there is a hint of snow in the air, it means one thing to the cycling community in Alberta. Cyclocross.

Bow Cycle/Cyclemeisters Calgary is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Cyclemeisters Fietscross at 10:00 a.m.Sunday, October 2 at SAIT Polytechnic, 1301 16th Avenue N.W.. Sign on and the Start/Finish line will be at the Student Centre. Spectators will have access to the winding course with excellent vantage points at the Studentís Centre and Heritage Hall.

Cyclocross, sometimes called the Steeplechase of cycling is a demanding event held on a course consisting of both on and off road sections. Challenging terrain and artificial barriers are used to force the racers off of their bikes multiple times per lap. The Fietscross course at SAIT is a 2.5 kilometre combination of long grassy climbs, off camber corners, sidehills, and a slightly downhill pavement section that will allow the racers to hammer or recover, depending on their skill and fitness.

Racing starts at 10:00 a.m. Sunday with the Expert class breaking in the new course, racing for 45 minutes. Sport class and Open Women start next on their 45 minute race at 11:15 a.m.. Elite Men/Open finish off the dayís events at 12:30 p.m. with a 60 minute lung-busting effort.

Bow Cycle will be on location providing technical support and quick fixes for riders in need. Note: this service will NOT be available to riders during their race. Bow Cycle has also generously provided prizes for the event.
