CS4L Releases 2nd Edition of ‘No Accidental Champions’

release by Canadian Sport for Life

December 07, 2011 – Canadian Sport for Life is pleased to release the 2nd edition of No Accidental Champions: Long-Term Athlete Development for Athletes with Disabilities. Written by Colin Higgs, Mary Bluechardt, Istvan Balyi, Richard Way, Paul Jurbala and David Legg and edited by Jim Grove, this document builds upon the Canadian Sport for Life Resource Paper and No Accidental Champions, 1st Ed. and addresses additional or unique factors that need to be considered by athletes, coaches, parents, administrators and health professionals in the delivery of sport and physical activity specifically for athletes with a disability.

No Accidental Champions 2nd Ed. describes some of the opportunities and challenges that face persons with permanent disabilities in pursuing sport and physical activity, and how the Canadian sport system can best accommodate their needs for increased activity and greater achievement through Long-Term Athlete Development. Not all individuals with disability will pursue competition; however, this should not exclude them from opportunities to learn sport skills and become active for life.

In addition to being available electronically at www.canadiansportforlife.ca HERE (PDF), you may contact Danielle (Danielle@canadiansportforlife.ca) to purchase hard copies.

Canadian Sport for Life wishes to thank Sport Canada and Canadian Sport CentrePacific for their support in the creation of this document.
