release by Cross on the Rock

November 19, 2009 (Nanaimo, BC) – This is it everyone. The last race of Cross on the Rock. The ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 at Shawnigan Lake School!!! We want to see ALL the island cross racers come out and support this event! There will be NO MORE cross racing on the island this year… and it is a long time until the next Island Cross race so come on out. Have some fun. Support the series. Show that the women’s field can support 2 categories. Show that we have a great group on Vancouver Island. Race hard. Win a great event prize, series prize or draw prize!

Check out the RACE GUIDE here (Word .doc) for the last event. Pay particular attention to instructions with regards to the venue, care of the venue and where to park. We do not want to have to DQ anyone before they even get to the start line. As with all of our venues… but particularly with the privately owned ones… GREAT CARE is needed by EVERYONE to increase our chances of using the venue again. Help us. Help you. Help the sport!

From our friend and Cross on the Rock lover… Jak New:

On November 21st, the fourth annual Escape Velocity Grand Prix of Cyclocross presented by Escape Velocity Cycling team will be a flat-out race for cyclocross glory! It will be a mostly flat-out grass-and-gravel course, set against the charming backdrop of the Fraser River. The course will be a weather dependent, as in it maybe fast, it maybe pure power. Trash talk is encouraged but please play nice.

– Online reg = $25.00, click here (Closes Friday, 8pm PST)
– Day of registration = $30.00 (on-site)

6) PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
If you are still itching to race after this weekendŠ.have not raced off the island yet in your life/this year… want to go to the big smoke for some Christmas shopping… have a desire to be the provincial champion OR just want to go have some fun there is still racing after CROSS ON THE ROCK….

NEXT weekend on the 29th of November… check it out www.bccyclocrosschamps.blogspot.com“>here

From Race Director Kevin CALHOUN:

The location is super easy to get to: Mahon Park in North Vancouver. I am going to alter the start times to be a little later so that it hopefully suits more Island racers wanting to come over the day of the race.

Kev

You can even warm up for this race by doing the last BC Cup race the day before on the 28th in South Surrey to make it a DOUBLE HEADER!

7) IN CASE YOU NEED A REFRESHER: Series Points UPDATE
Check out the points update from after 5 races and with 1 to go. There has been a shake up in every single series category with the exception of Dave Holden in Masters. With one race to go and not taking out the always interesting LOW SCORE DROP:

– Intermediate: Roland Rabien
– Masters: Dave Holden
– Women: Jen Erlendson
– Expert: Craig Ritchey

With DOUBLE POINTS a factor at the last race as well as the LOW SCORE DROP… well really anything can and has happened! It is a tight battle out there!

8) EVERYONE… EVERYONE… COME AND RACE!!
I was looking at how many people we have ranked this year for the series… meaning that they have done at least one of the races in a category other than beginner and finished the event to score pointsŠ..so far we have 175 Ranked riders Vs. 134 last year. Then I started to think about how nice and fun it would be to have EVERYONE show up at the same race… It would be incredible… our fields would look like this for numbers:

– Intermediate: 65
– Masters: 44
– Women: 22
– Expert: 44

With that many riders we would be able to afford $$ for the open women and expert men at every race (Thanks again Action Motorcycles for the $$ last weekend). If we had that many women racing we would be able to have both an intermediate category and an open women category… it would be great!

With that I would like to thank those that have made a solid effort to recruit new riders out to the series this year. It has been great to see some new faces and we hope that they come back. If you have not yet… bring someone new out to the series final! Last chance this year!!
