release by Creemore Springs Brewery

Turas Mor logoApril 01, 2016 (Creemore, ON) – Creemore Springs Brewery is excited to announce a truly unique cycling event to take place on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Creemore and the surrounding countryside. Turas Mór means Great Journey in Gaelic, which is in keeping with the heritage of Creemore, also a Gaelic word that means Big Heart. Evoking memories of events like L’Eroica in Europe, Turas Mór hopes to be a celebration of cycling, its heritage and the thrill of the ride. The inaugural 61km bike tour will be exclusive to 150 riders.

“We thought that by creating a vintage cycling festival in Creemore we would pay homage to the love of cycling in the area while allowing folks to experience more than just the ride,” says Karen Gaudino, Director of Marketing at Creemore Springs. “We hope to enable cyclists to truly experience all that the area has to offer – all done in vintage costumes & gear without focusing on their finish time.”

In keeping with the inspiration of the event, riders are encouraged to don their vintage gear and ride a vintage or “heroic” bike made prior to 1987. Ideally, those steel frames, single speed bikes with old style toe clip pedals with straps would be preferred, but if you don’t have a heroic ride, not to worry, other road worthy bikes are welcome in Year 1.

Turas Mór is a non-competitive cycling event on gravel and non-gravel roads through some of the most scenic cycling areas in Clearview Township, Simcoe County. The challenging, yet memorable ride will be highlighted with two rest spots. Enjoy the beauty of the area with fellow cycling enthusiasts and finish the day at the vintage festival, beer garden and delicious food offerings that will take place in the village of Creemore – what could be better?

The entry fee to the event harkens back to the beginnings of Creemore Springs in 1987 – $87, which will get you a place in the ride, a great swag bag, a fabulous day of riding, local food and drink at designated rest stops, post-race hospitality and late lunch by Batch from Creemore.

Participants must be 19 years of age or older to register.
