Coupe des Nations Saguenay Stage 2 Report, Full Results – Boily 7th

report by Coupe des Nations – Ville de Saguenay
June 01, 2012 (La Baie, QC) – French rider, Julian Alaphilippe, emerged victorious on 151km Stage 2 at the Coupe des Nations – Ville de Saguenay held on Friday in La Baie. By beating his breakaway companions, the 19-year-old athlete also claimed the white jersey a Best Young Rider. Argentina’s Eduardo Sepulveda and Britain’s Mark Christian fought hard at the end to claim second and third respectively. David Boily was the top Canadian in 7th.

Only a few kilometers after the start seven riders escaped. The break worked well together and increased their lead, which swelled to nearly three minutes. But after about 100km the break was finally caught and their escape plans ended.

Not long after the attacks started again and 10 riders from the 86-strong pack were able to establish a gap. As the race came to an end the gap was decreasing rapidly but the leaders were able to stay clear and battle for the podium spots.

“The race suited me. We rode well, but in the last five kilometers the riders were looking at each other too much and we lost a lot of time. We remained vigilant but mistrusted each other. I sprinted at the right time and that was it,” explained the winner.

Yesterday’s winner, Arman Kamyshev from Kazakstan finally put his hands on the coveted yellow jersey. He also tops the Points ranking while Colombia’s Carlos Galeano,  claimed the polka dot jersey for Best Climber. Boily sits in 9th overall.

The action resumes on Saturday with Stage 3 in Kenogami, as competitors will test themselves along a 141km route.
