August 3, 2010 – Alberto Contador (Astana), this year’s TdF winner, will leaving his current team to join Bjarne Riis’s new Danish SunGard-Saxo Bank team in 2011 reports the Guardian. In doing so, Contador walks away from a reputed £3m ($4,889,00 CDN) annual contract offer. It is unclear how much Riis is offering Contador to ride for his restructured team with new sponsor US-based SunGard and Saxo Bank who originally planned to end their sponsorship but are back on board.

In what seems to be a veritable musical chairs in ProTour cycling, Andy Schleck (who finished second at the 2010 TdF), and brother Frank, are set to leave Saxo Bank and join a new, as yet untitled team based in Luxembourg. They will be joined by Saxo Bank stalwarts Stuart O’Grady and Jens Voigt.

Contador, meanwhile is expected to bring some domestiques with him from Astana, notably Daniel Navarro. Astana’s 2011 roster will likely be centred around Kazakh veteran Alexandre Vinokourov.
