Canada’s Weldon & Roy Hospitalized – Withdraw from UCI Para-Cycling World Cup Finals and Worlds

August 21, 2013 – Canada will be without two of its brightest stars as the 2013 UCI Para-Cycling World Cup Finals begin tomorrow. Robbi Weldon and Emilie Roy are currently in hospital after being hit by a car on a training ride in Matane, QC.

The two para-cyclists have multiple fractures as a result of the accident, and are still under observation and further evaluations at the hospital in Matane.

Tricyclist Dominique Mainguy was also forced to withdraw after a crash in a training ride, an incident that did not involve a another party.

“We wish our three athletes a speedy recovery. They will all be greatly missed on the roads of Matane for the World Cup Finals and Baie-Comeau for the Para-Cycling Road World Championships as strong contenders for medals at these two very important events coming up,” said Jacques Landry, Director of High Performance and Head Coach at Cycling Canada.

The 2013 UCI Para-Cycling World Cup Finals begin tomorrow in Matane, QC, and the Para-Cycling World Championships are to be held next week in Baie-Comeau, QC.
