Canada’s Gee Wins GP du Central and Elliott Wins GP Color Code + KOM, Overall and BMC Bike in Belgium

by pedalmag.com

July 30, 2017 (Belgium) – Team RaceClean Canada finished a very successful weekend with Derek Gee winning the 138.2km Grand Prix du Central on Saturday with teammate William Elliott landing on the podium in 3rd and winning the KOM jersey. Then on Sunday at the Grand Prix Colour Code, 159.6km, Elliott finished 10th while claiming the KOM jersey again along with the omnium for both races, the Challenge Jean-Pierre Lekeu, taking home a BMC mountain bike for his efforts.

We caught up with Luc Arseneau, Development Coach at Cycling Canada, for his take on the weekend.

“Yeah, this can be confusing, especially when you only have 144 characters! haha! This weekend were two one-day races. The Grand Prix de la Centrale and the Grand Prix ColorCode. For those doing both events, they carried an omnium type challenge. Derek Gee won the GP de la Centrale, while Will Elliott finished 3rd, and Edward Walsh was 9th. During that race Elliott also won the KOM competition.

“On day 2 at the the GP Color Code, Will finished 10th, and by doing that, he clinched the overall, the Challenge Jean-Pierre Lekeu based on points, ahead of two Ago-Aqua Service riders, Antoine Loy and Sylvain Monique. This is how William won the BMC mountain bike,” explained Arseneau.
