Canada’s Alex Tougas 4th Just Off Podium in Junior Men’s Super TT Final @BMX Worlds in Colombia

May 28, 2016 (Medellin, Colombia) – Canadian Alex Tougas from Pitt Meadows, BC raced to a fabulous 4th place finish landing just off the podium in the Junior Men’s Super TT final after qualifying 5th. Top qualifier, Mathis Ragot Richard, from France, won gold over Andrew Hughes (AUS) in second with Charles Borel (FRA) in third. Canada’s Deven Kawa placed 16th, Nicholas Doyle was 39th, Josh Samells was 42nd, Benjamin Leslie was 47th, and Riley Lavorato finished 48th.

In the Elite Men’s competition, the day ended early for Tory Nyhaug of Coquitlam, BC, the reigning Pan American Games champ, as he did not finish his qualification run. Niek Kimmann (NED) who qualifed 3rd won the Super TT final over Sam Willoughby (AUS) in second with Olympic champ Maris Strombergs (LAT) in third. Canada’s James Palmer finished 43rd and Gaby Malenfant placed 67th.

Amelia Walsh of Ayr, ON, finished 28th in the Elite Women’s TT as Caroline Buchanan (AUS) won gold in the final with Laura Smulders (NED) taking the silver and local Colombian star Mariana Pajon the bronze.

Megane Belanger was the lone Canuck racing in the Junior Women’s field and ended up 17th as Merel Smulders (NED) won gold over Bethany Shriever (Gbr) in second with Ruby Huisman (NED) winning the bronze.
