Canada Cup MTB XC #6

August 13, 2005 (Sun Peaks Resort, B.C.) — Riders gave it their all today, in a last-ditch attempt to earn Canada Cup points before the Canada Cup Champions were crowned this evening. Kris Sneddon (BC, Kona-Les Gets) stepped up and delivered. Today’s win was important in order to secure his title and silence any doubters. After riding with Ricky Federau (BC, Gears Racing) for much of the six-lap race, Sneddon finally managed to attack and get a gap on Federau, who wound up second, 27 seconds back from the leader. Sneddon’s win gave him the overall Canada Cup title for 2005. Andrew Watson (ON, Gears Racing) finished third. Wendy Simms (BC, Frontrunners) went back to her strategy: Go hard from the beginning and hold it until the end.

She completed five dusty and bumpy laps of the course in 1:55:50 and had a nearly six-minute cushion when she crossed the finish line. “I felt pretty good out there,” said Simms about her race. Catharine Pendrel (BC, The Bike Barn) was pleased with her second place. “It was a really good race,” she said. “Wendy was just too fast to catch.” The overall women’s Canada Cup Champion, Mical Dyck (AB, Terrascape Racing) wound up third.

Georges-Edouard Duquette (QC, Equipe du Quebec) motored through his five laps in the junior men’s race. He finished in a time of 1:44:07, five minutes faster than second place, Leni Gelinas Trudel (QC, Equipe du Quebec). Tom Last (Independent) finished third. Duquette claimed the overall series title. Emilie Beaumont (QC, Equipe du Quebec) powered to a win today, finishing 27 seconds ahead of Canada Cup Series winner Marie-Claude Suprenant (QC, Equipe du Quebec).

Isabelle Jacques (QC, La Vie Sportive) finished third.
