August 15, 2005 — Canada’s best gravity racers had nothing to lose and everything to gain today, as they ripped through the mountain bike park at B.C.’s Sun Peaks Resort for the final event of the Canada Cup Series. David Klassenvanoorschot (USA, KHS-Spy) posted the fastest time down the 3.88-kilometre course, which began at top of the Sunburst Express chairlift and dropped 600 vertical metres. Luke Kitzanuk (CAN, Giant) couldn’t quite match the runaway train Klassenvanoorschot. He wound up second, which gave him enough points to take the overall series win. Quebec’s Charles-Alexandre Dube (QC, DH Racer) squeezed out the third-fastest time on the challenging course. Danika Schroeter (BC, Giant) won the women’s event and the series title with the fastest women’s time of 5:41.48.

The second-place winner, sixteen-year-old Micayla Gatto (BC, Rocky Mountain-Business Objects) laid down an impressive run. She finished only 1.94 behind Schroeter. National Champ Adrienne Miller (BC, Devinci-Daredevil) pulled off a solid podium finish, with third place. National Champion Steve Chan (BC, Independent) won the junior men’s race in a time of 5:00.25, eons ahead of second place, Kyle Ritchie (BC, Kona) who was over 17 seconds back. Nick Dent (BC, Giant) wound up third. Chan’s two wins in the last half of the series earned him the Canada Cup Series title.
