Calling ALL Volunteers – Shimano Canadian Cyclo-cross Championships Oct. 24-26

release by winnipegcx2014.ca

September 13, 2014 (Winnipeg, MB) – Greetings cyclists, sports fans, and friendly Manitobans…The Shimano Canadian Cyclocross Championships will descend upon the majestic Forks Market in Winnipeg on October 24, 25, 26 and we need your help.  Please follow this link for further information.

Over the course of the weekend festival approximately 1000 racers aged 4 through 99 will compete for national titles, or fun and bragging rights, in approximately 25 different races.  For those unfamiliar with this unique mode of bike racing, cyclocross challenges racers on multiple different terrains including gravel, grass, and pavement, traversing through sand and mud and over natural and man-made barricades, on a course that will weave its way through the Forks grounds.

Cyclocross is spectator friendly and adrenaline filled.  Winnipeg is proud to host this championship event for the first time in Canadian history.

It is estimated that over the course of the three day festival, over 200 volunteers will be required to make this event successful. We need volunteers with a variety of talents and enthusiasms for roles such as course safety and marshalling, registration, equipment security, and hospitality.  If required, training will be provided for these roles.

Not since the Cobblestone Classic of the 1980s has a cycling event of this magnitude been hosted in our city.  Whether you are a loyal cycling community member or unfamiliar to the sport, it is guaranteed to be a weekend that will be the talk of the town for years to come.  The infectious race atmosphere and spectator cheer, guarantees that you may arrive knowing no one, but you will leave with many friends.

Please consider lending your talents.  Follow the link below to complete our volunteer registration form and you will be contacted by a volunteer coordinator before the end of September for more details – here.
