release by the Calgary Bicycle Track League

April 29, 2011 (Calgary, AB) – The Calgary Bicycle Track League (CBTL) is pleased to announce that the 2011 track season will get underway this Saturday, April 30 at the Glenmore Velodrome in Calgary. “Try the Track clinics” are free, and the CBTL has an extensive fleet of well-maintained track bikes available for rent. Please don’t be afraid to come out and try the track! It’s wicked fun, and it’s not nearly as scary as it may seem!

The CBTL offers 18 weeks of Monday and Tuesday night training sessions, Thursday night racing, and Saturday training sessions. In addition to club races for all athletes, novice to elite, the Glenmore Velodrome is home to several Alberta Bicycle Association sanctioned track meets each season. New this year is a Women’s Program that will focus on introducing women to the sport of track cycling. The Youth Development Program will continue this season for athletes aged 13 to 19 (under 13 at coach’s discretion).

Built in 1976, The Glenmore Velodrome is a 400-meter outdoor permanent concrete track, owned by the City of Calgary and used by the CBTL. It is located in Glenmore Athletic Park – 5300, 19 Street SW. Registration for CBTL programs is through www.karelo.com. For more information, please check out our website: www.cbtl.ca.
