February 1, 2008 (Burnaby, BC) – The Burnaby Velodrome is pleased to welcome Pedal Magazine as a Silver Sponsor of the velodrome for the 2008 season. We value Pedal’s ongoing support of our various programs, races, camps and other activities and, in addition, Pedal is also taking on a role as co-sponsor of our 2008 women’s racing and development program.
In partnership with wheelbuilder.com and the Burnaby Velodrome Club, Pedal Magazine is providing the resources necessary to ensure that all of the major events this year will have both New Women and Elite Women’s races. This will help us build on the success we’ve had in 2007 in developing larger women’s fields.
Glenn Barr of the Burnaby Velodrome commented, “We realize that one of the biggest issues surrounding women’s cycling today is the lack of women-only fields at races. The Burnaby Velodrome is committed to offering women’s racing at several levels, to foster the development of a strong women’s racing scene here in British Columbia, and we’re excited to partner with Pedal, Canada’s leading cycling publication.”
“The Burnaby Velodrome has made great strides in a short period of time,” said Benjamin Sadavoy, Pedal’s editor/publisher, “The recent Burnaby 6-Day is testimony to this success and we’re looking forward to working specifically with the women’s racing and development program, and all aspects of the Burnaby Velodrome’s activities, to build on their success the date.”
Check out women’s racing at the upcoming MAYDAY! BVC Spring Challenge, running May 9th – 11th at the Burnaby Velodrome.
