release by Silas DIRT Camp

February 16, 2011 (Montreal, QC) – Silas Development in Riding Technique (DIRT) Camp, Quebec’s premiere mountain biking camp, will celebrate its 15th season in June 2011. DIRT Camp is a specialized summer camp focused on the development of mountain biking skills for beginner, intermediate and advanced level boys and girls aged nine to 16. DIRT Camp offers both overnight and day camp sessions in Bromont, Quebec and two overnight sessions in Whistler, BC (see “2011 Schedule” below). Additionally, DIRT Camp offers a bilingual environment, with an emphasis on English immersion for francophone campers.

The safety and well-being of campers is of paramount importance at DIRT Camp. The camp is a member of the Association des camps certifiés du Québec (ACQ) and the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclists (FQSC). Instructors are hand-picked by Director Jeff Silas and a minimum ratio of six campers per instructor is in effect at all times. Instructors are certified in First Aid and CPR.

A typical day at DIRT Camp starts with breakfast at 8 AM, a morning cycling session with a specific focus (ex.: balance), lunch, an afternoon clinic (ex: stability), dinner, a group activity, camp fire and lights out at 10 PM sharp. The camp’s weekly meal plan reflects the nutritional needs of highly-active kids while offering delicious meals for a variety of individual tastes.

Each six-night session in Bromont, including accommodation and full meal plan, costs $725.00. Day camp (five days) costs $425.00 per session. For complete pricing details, please click here.

“Our approach is simple,” says Jeff Silas, Director, Silas DIRT Camp. “We run a specialized camp with expert instructors and small groups – about 25 campers per week, we offer a high degree of individualized attention and we spend about five hours per day on our bikes.”

“Few people realize that operating a summer camp is a very competitive business. I am very proud that DIRT Camp has evolved and matured over the past 15 years. The fact that we continue to grow validates our commitment. We teach mountain biking skills, but just as importantly, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for kids to develop their self-confidence and build friendships. And, of course, we have a lot of fun doing it!” concludes Jeff.
