Bettini Celebrate In Lombardia

October 19, 2002 – Italy's Michele Bartoli won the last World Cup race of the season in Lombardia on Saturday. Countryman Paolo Bettini posted a typically modest classification for the eventual World Cup winner, finishing outside the point positions.

Bettini's overall victory was made easier by the withdrawal of Johan Museeuw, who did finish in the top ten of the overall standings for the eighth time in his career, extending the record in that category. For Bartoli, the 1997 and 1998 World Cup winner, it meant the fifth different World Cup race he has won and the sixth overall.
