BC XC MTB Championships Report, Results, Photos – Cross, Richey Crowned

August 12, 2014 (Burnaby, BC) – The Cardiac Classic, BC’s 2014 provincial XC MTB Championships presented by West Coast Cycling, took place Sunday on the popular trails of Burnaby Mountain on a smoking hot summer’s day. The course was centered around the infamous “Cardiac” climb and featured the classic “Nicole’s” downhill trail.

Chole Cross (Team Whistler) took home the BC Champion’s jersey in the elite women’s category, although the race was won by the Czech Republic’s Petra Tlamkova (Eleven-Rubena Test Team) of Whistler. Giant Vancouver’s Heidi Manicke nabbed third in the three-lap race.

Craig Richey (Trek Red Truck Racing p/b Mosaic Homes) won the elite men’s competition, scoring the championship jersey by more than 10 minutes over second place, Seth Wells. Kevin Calhoun (Rocky Mountain) rounded out the top three.

The U19 women’s title went to Whistler’s Jennifer McTavish (Cycling BC), while fellow Whistler rider Mahon Lamont (Cycling BC) took home the U19 men’s jersey. Emily Handford (Different Bikes) and Nelson Kleer (Skookum Cycle) won the U17 women’s and men’s races, respectively. Hamish Graham (KCU) was the top U15 men’s finisher. In the U13 women’s and men’s competitions, Emily Johnston (Trail Bicycles) and Cody Scott (DEVO p/b Catalyst Kinetics) were the respective victors.

Local Ride Racing’s Carsten Ivany of Abbotsford grabbed the 30-39 men’s win, as teammate Jeanine Ball of Vancouver scored the 30-39 women’s title.

Kristine Brynjolfson captured the women’s 40-49 title and in the men’s 40-49 category, it was veteran speedster Bob Welbourn (Glotman Simpson) who powered onto the top podium spot. The 50+ men’s crown went to Larry Hindle (Spoke N Motion) of Kamloops.
