Astana’s Kashechkin Tests Positive for Blood Transfusion

August 8, 2007 – Astana’s Andrej Kashechkin from Kazakhstan has tested positive for a banned blood transfusion during an unannounced test on Aug. 1 in Belek, Turkey and has been suspended from the team pending the results of his “B” sample according to AP.

The Astana team is still reeling from Alexandre Vinokourov’s recent positive test for a blood transfusion at the Tour de France. Vinokourov was dismissed from the Tour and Astana withdrew their whole team as a result, later firing Vinokourov. Astana is planning to announce new team regulations and ethics rules in the near future.
