August 30, 2014 (Ljubljana Slovenia) – Pedal received the following short report from Bruce Bird (Wheels of Bloor) who is part of a small group of Canadians competing at the Amateur World Cycling Championships in Slovenia…and Bird might have some big news about Canada being involved with the event next year.

“We are 5 of the 7 participants – Andre Lamarche, Shelly Mckee, Zeina Loutfi, Stephane Demers and Bruce Bird – proudly representing Canada at the event of over 1,600 athletes from over 40 countries. The team photo is in Ljubljana, Slovenia at the Amateur World Cycling Championship taken just prior to the team relay demonstration event on Friday Aug 29. Zeina Loutfi did not compete in the 4-person relay but did place 3rd in the TT women 35-39 category on Aug 28th. The 156km road race is tomorrow, Sunday, Aug 31, starting at 9am.

After having submitted a proposal last week, I met with Erwin Vervecken of the UWCT (UCI World Cycling Tour) and had a very positive discussion about bringing a 2015 World Championship qualifying event to Canada – The Grey County Road Race next May in the Blue Mountains.
