Alberta Youth Road Championships Update

August 17, 2005 – Here is the info for the Alberta Youth Road Champs coming up on Labour Day weekend.

Dates

– ITT: Saturday, September 3, 3:30 pm
– Road Race: Sunday, September 4, 9:00 am
– Criterium: Monday, September 5, 9:00 am

Registration / Cost

Pre-registration is encouraged and will be collected by e-mail and telephone starting on Monday, August 29 at Noon (events@albertabicycle.ab.ca / 403-297-2720). In person registration, sign-on and license check is from 1:00 pm — 2:45 pm at the Community Hall in Millarville, AB (the venue for the Individual Time Trial).

Cost: $40 / person

Individual Time Trial
– Saturday, September 3, 3:30 pm
Distance (All Categories): 19 km

Course Description:

Starts at the west-most exit of the Millarville Loop in MD Foothills, travels west on Route 549 and turns around 250 meters past the intersection made with 320 Street West. The course returns along Route 549 and finishes on the opposite side of the road from the start. Traffic is not controlled for this race; riders must follow all traffic laws and give way to oncoming vehicles at the turn-around.

Riders will start at 1 minute intervals, category order is Junior M, U17 M, Junior F, U17 F, U15 M, U15 F. Start times are in order of registration, first rider leaves at 3:31 pm.

Sunday, September 4.

-Staging at 8:45 am, Race Starts at 9:00 am.

Distance (U15) Male & Female: 40 km (4 Laps)
Distance (U17 & Junior) Female: 60 km (6 Laps)
Distance (U17 & Junior) Male: 90 km (9 Laps)

Course Description:

Parking at the Madden Community Center. The course is a 10km loop, which travels West on Township Road 290, North on Route 766, East on Township Road 292 and South on Range Road 30. Riders will proceed individually to the start, approximately 500 m north of the Community Hall.

Criterium

-Monday, September 5, 9:00 am

Distance — U15 Male & Female: 18 km (15 Laps)
Distance — U17 & Junior Female: 24 km (20 Laps)
Distance — U17 & Junior Male: 36 km (30 Laps)

Course Description:

A 1.2 km loop, found in University Research Park at the University of Calgary. The location of participant parking will be announced at license check on Saturday, September 3.
