Abbotsford UCI BMX Supercross Track Unveiled + Photos

June 27, 2012 (Abbotsford, BC) – In 2011, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) awarded Cycling BC the final leg of the 2012 BMX World Cup circuit at which both the Men and Women’s series champion will be crowned. This prestigious international event will take place September 14-15 in Abbotsford, BC. Read more about it HERE.

Together with Abbotsford BMX club members, Fortis BC, support from the city and volunteers, substantial upgrades to the BMX track were completed and the new BMX Supercross was unveiled on June 26. On hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman, Cycling BC CEO Keith Ryan, Abbotsford BMX Club President Steve Baxter, Elite BMX rider Connor McCormack along with junior riders who tested out the new track.

These improvements include the addition of more permanent bleachers, which will increase the venue’s overall seating capacity and updated design of the BMX track.  Further improvements include adequate power supply made available to operate the production of the TV and media broadcasts.

The BMX Supercross World Cup event to be held in Abbotsford will attract over 400 international athletes, an estimated 1000 out-of-own spectators and will attract the attention of media outlets around the world.
