Description: Ready to Race! Introduction to Competition (R2R) is the context for coaches who will primarily work with new competitive cy-clists at the community and club level. These athletes will likely be in the Learn to Train to Train to Train stages of LTAD, although the context could apply to any new racer of any age. These athletes have basic but developed cycling skills and the desire to begin competing within a structured training and competition program. They should have passed through an entry-level Community Initiation program (CCI) to help them develop the basic skills.

EVENT ORGANIZER EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Any individual member, or affiliated club, interested in organizing one or more events during 2015 must submit an Expression of Interest form for each event. Preferential calendar placement will be given to those organizers who submit an Expression of Interest form on or prior to Friday January 16, 2015. A preliminary calendar will be set and posted reflecting the first round of such forms following the Race Organizers’ Conference. All other organizers wishing to gain a place on the 2015 calendar will be given the choice of any open weekends after the preliminary calendar is set.

Following the January 16 deadline, the ABA will host a Race Organizers’ Conference & Calendar Planning Meeting tentatively planned for Saturday January 24, 2015 in Red Deer. All organizers will be sent an RSVP request for this meeting. A preliminary calendar will be established at the meeting, which will be circulated to organizers and posted on the ABA website no later than January 31, 2015.

For all those organizers interested in hosting a Club Sanctioned event in 2015, please fill out the “Club Sanction EOI Form”. Information here on what distinguishes a Club Event from a Provincial Sanction can be found on the form itself.

ABA IS HIRING – LEAD SPORT COORDINATOR
The Alberta Bicycle Association is seeking to fill the position of Lead Sport Coordinator. The full job description can be found here.

SPONSORSHIP
In 2014, Team Alberta supported 28 Junior and Para- Cyclists at eight National events. During these events, our junior athletes took home four National Champion jerseys, three silver medals and five bronze medals. In addition to reaching the podium multiple times, seven Provincial Team athletes went on to compete for Team Canada at World Championships. Along with the long term personal growth benefits, our goal is to provide young cyclists with the performance opportunities to represent the province on the national stage. However, the high cost of cycling can prevent up and coming cyclists in Alberta from taking advantage of this provincial program. As a result, we are in the process of looking for sponsors to support the Alberta Provincial Team to ensure all families can participate and experience the benefits. Please click on the link for details or contact Angus Cowan (403-650-7221; angusicowan@gmail.com) if you are interested to learn more about supporting our program.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS ON THEIR UPGRADE!

  • Novice -> Expert Novice -> Intermediate Intermediate -> Expert: Jon Ochitwa, Airdrie BMX Jarek Hokanson, Airdrie BMX Joron Dyok, Red Deer BMX
