December 09, 2016 (Milton, ON) – Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation – Cycling and Events, this part-time contract position uses comprehensive knowledge of cycling specific technical skills to lead the development and supervision of track cycling programs at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (MNCC). While serving as a positive role model, the Head Coach, Track Cycling is responsible for the planning, administration, program delivery and supervision of instructional track cycling programs that are safe, fun and appropriate for the targeted age group and mission of the session or program.

This position operates on a seasonal contract from September – June. This position is expected to work 8-12 hours per week, some weeks may require additional hours.

Major Job Responsibilities Include:

• Under the direction of the Supervisor, Recreation, develop and implement the general format of track cycling programs to meet the needs of the session and/or program level
• Schedule and supervise coaching staff to ensure all duties, as outlined in their job descriptions, are followed and evaluate performance of staff
• Take a lead role in developing a track cycling curriculum for programs
• With direction from the Supervisor, Recreation, work with high performance partners to ensure that youth programming considers development along the Long Term Athlete Development pathway
• Provide support to coaches to modify and adapt the technical, physical and cognitive session demands to meet individual participants’ abilities and needs
• Responsible for all applicable administrative duties, including ensuring accurate staff payroll is submitted, performance reviews, session summaries, inventory forms, program evaluations, etc.
• Submit all required forms, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information, to the Supervisor, Recreation
• Align and prepare equipment requirements where necessary
• Maintain a safe, clean facility; includes proper usage and storage of equipment
• Report any accidents, incidents, concerns or site damage to the supervisor
• Provide excellent customer service
• Attend and assume a leadership role at mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and allocated program times as determined by the Supervisor, Recreation
• Attend to customer concerns and communicate to the Supervisor, Recreation all concerns and accidents/incidents
• Assist with the development and delivery of promotional materials as necessary
• Assist with the interview process for coaching staff
• Evaluate situations for potential risks and recommend actions to address such risks
• Complies with all health and safety practices as it related to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
• Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives

 Education and Experience

• Completion of Secondary Education
• Post-secondary degree/diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Education, Kinesiology, or related field is an asset
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Coach or Program Development lead within the cycling domain, with progressive levels of responsibility
• Comprehensive understanding of the cycling specific Long Term Athlete Development pathway and Cycling Sport for Life
• Experience and competence in coaching track cycling
• NCCP certified Competition cycling coach
• National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Certification competition Development “trained” status an asset
• Knowledge and experience with multi-discipline cycling an asset
• Competent administrative skills utilizing the most common applications of Microsoft Office
• Strong interest and personal commitment to athlete and coach development
• Intermediate level of understanding of nutrition, biomechanics, anatomy and physiology related to the sport of cycling
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
• Discretion, tact and mature judgment is required
• Effective organizational, time management and problem solving skills
• Experience working with persons with disabilities and youth in a recreational setting an asset
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Hourly Rate: $37.31
