April 25, 2012 – The UCI has announced the official quota spots for countries participating at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Canada has qualified for six (6) events – the men’s Keirin and Omnium; and the women’s Team Pursuit, Omnium, Keirin and Sprint.
Additionally the men’s Team Sprint is listed as a reserve meaning that Canada will get a spot if one the countries that qualified does not use their berth.
The quota system involved limiting the number of riders from any nation riding an event, as well as the number of nations per continent. The qualification of Canada in the men’s Keirin is somewhat of a surprise and the women’s Keirin spot almost assuredly means that Monique Sullivan will be going to the Games.
