Antoine Bedwani Remembered

September 30, 2003 – There is no doubt a huge list of riders who Antoine Bedwani has touched, from cadets to Veterans.  Here are three of Canada's finest champions whose lives the late Mr. Bedwani had a profound affect on.

Roland Green, Espoirs de Laval 1993-1995, 2-time World MTB XC Champion, Trek-Volkswagen

Antoine Bedwani was an exceptional man with a great capacity to care and give.  He helped me at a time in my career when I very much needed support and an organized cycling team. His commitment to developing young talent was unconditional and unending. He will be greatly missed and greatly appreciated.

Michael Barry, Espoirs de Laval guest rider 1997, Multiple National Champion, USPS

Antoine Bedwani was a great help to many up-and-coming cyclists. He was a not only a manager, but also a friend to many of the cyclists. He is definitely a personality that all of Canada's cyclists will greatly miss. I thank him for helping me out as a young amateur.

Dominque Perras, Espoirs de Laval 1998 – 1999, Current National Road Champion, iteamnova.com/Flanders

I raced for Antoine for only two seasons, but I have met few people in my carreer with as much passion and devotion for the development of cycling, either for men or women. I believe he was a major contributor to the development of Quebec and Canadian cycling in the last three decades.  A quick example of that devotion: I will always remember him driving long hours to races in the US with the old “espoirs de Laval” van and then later that night, he would sleep in the van so as not to bother us with his snoring! Take care Antoine, we will miss you.

Eric Wohlberg, Espoirs de Laval 1999 guest rider, Current National TT Champion, Saturn

There have been few to give so much of themselves to help Canadian Cycling. Even though I was a guest rider on Espoirs Laval on very rare occasions, Antoine was always quick to look out for me no matter who I was racing for. He truly desired to see  people succeed. I knew that whenever I was passing through Montreal, I always had a meal, a place to hang my hat or someone to call upon day or night  if I was in a bind.I know that I was one of many to be treated so well. That was Antoine's nature.I'll always have fond memories of  him.We should all be thankful for the efforts he made to help so many, and try to follow his example. Thanks Antoine.

Adam Ruppel, Espoirs de Laval 1993, Founder of Chico Racing

I raced on Espoir with Roland Green, Steve Rover, Peter Wedge, and a few others in 1993. You couldn't miss Antoine in a crowd, his slicked back hair, funny laugh, and his overuse of the phrase “for instance”. He didn't look like a cyclist, but his passion for people, the sport, and his endless energy will be missed!  A great man and an icon of this sport in Canada!
