May 23, (Newmarket, Ontario) – Registration has opened for the June 13th Tour of Speed, the Newmarket Eagles Cycling Club’s youth road race in East Gwillimbury (northeast of Newmarket, Ontario). It is open to all boys and girls ages 10 to 16 (birth years 1993 to 1999). To pre-register just go to the Ontario Cycling Association’s web site at www.ontariocycling.org and click on the “Online Registration” link.
This is a stand alone event, just for the kids, so it is a perfect opportunity for them to try a real race. All that is needed is a helmet and a road or mountain bike that is safe to ride. (Please note that aero equipment, time trial bikes or bull horns are not permitted). There are two events, a time trial and a road race, with separate races for boys and girls in two-year age categories. Medals will be awarded based on results from both events. But you do not need to participate in both races.
There will also be a BBQ and other freebies. This is all made possible by Norco, Louis Garneau, SIDI, ASSOS, Orbea, Arundel, Hammer Nutrition, Pedal Magazine, Ryeka Sport, Get Out There, Vince’s Market, York Region Police and the Town of East Gwillimbury.
The road race course is a safe 4 km loop with one gradual hill. Bring your child, niece, nephew or neighbour and support youth cycling. Full information is available at www.newmarketeagles.com/youth.asp or contact Mark Summers 905-478-8308 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or Gord Clarke at 905-726-8656.
