“We are honored to have our team partnered with such a great organization. Wounded Warriors Canada serves such a wonderful role in helping our national heroes who have been injured in combat situations. This event will help us raise some much needed resources to help those who have given so much for our freedom,” states team Marketing Director Rob Thomson.
The evening will feature two time Olympian, and World Silver Medalist, Zach Bell. The Whitehorse, Yukon born Olympian will share stories of cycling success on home soil as a national champion, as well as events that lead to him being on podiums around the world. Finishing in the top ten at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics was a remarkable accomplishment for the cyclist now based in Vancouver.
The fundraising event will also serve as a launch pad for the 2016 edition of the Giant Langley / Smart Savvy+ Cycling Team. The team will be introduced at the Cycling Gala, and throughout the season they will raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warriors project. Thomson states, “Our U23 team and Wounded Warriors Canada is such a great partnership. It is giving our young student athletes the opportunity to give back to those who have made such significant sacrifices for our freedom.”
The Cycling Gala plans to raise money at the event through tickets sales, silent auction items and donations. Tickets are now on sales online here.
