2006 Track Worlds – Day 3 AM Report and Results

April 15, 2006 (Bordeaux, France) – At major events like the World Championships, when pressure and emotions are high, great athletes stay cool under fire and go as fast or faster than they’ve ever gone before – which is exactly what Travis Smith of Alberta did at the 2006 Track World Championships.

This morning in Bordeaux, France Travis Smith of Alberta finished the 200 meter qualifying time-trial in a time of 10.404 seconds, his second fastest time in the 2006 international World Cup season. Earlier in the season, at the first World Cup in Moscow, Russia Smith finished with a time of 10.260 seconds. Unfortunately in the first round of sprints, Smith was unable to hold off Damian Zielinski of Poland, which means he will go to a repechage round later today.

In the Men’s Team Pursuit event there were no surprises. The Great Britain team came out strong to defend their title, qualifying first with a time of 4.04.074 minutes. However, the Australians are going to put up a good fight. They finished just behind the Great Britain team with a time of 4.04.403 minutes.

There are three final events later today, the Men’s Scratch Race, Men’s Team Pursuit and Women’s Sprint. Stay tuned to more golden moments.
